Molecular Genetics Exam!

Hey Everyone!

As a class we decided that our next exam on Molecular Genetics would be this Wednesday December 10th. The exam format is as follows:

Part 1: 45 Multiple Choice Questions (45 marks)

Part II: Free Response Question (10 marks)

  • students must answer one of three essay questions

  • topics include: information transfer (replication, transcription, translation, transformation, transduction, conjugation); OR operon hypothesis and protein synthesis in bacteria cells; OR genetic engineering

We will prepare for this exam on Tuesday during Period 6.

Way to go!

All of you did an AWESOME job on your first AP Bio Exams! CONGRATULATIONS!
The marks were all above 82% . Keep up the good work.

What you can be working on:
  • Read Chapter 7: A Tour of the Cell
  • Read Chapter 8: Membrane Structure and Function

See you Thursday. I will hand the tests back then.

Biochemistry Unit Test

Our first test is scheduled for Tuesday September 16th during P5.

It will consist of:

  • 45 multiple choice questions (45 marks) [e.g. atomic number, atomic mass number, electronegativity, isomers, valence, bond types, pH, functional groups, macromolecules, enzymes, etc.)
  • 1 free response question (10 marks) [Please note that there will be three possible free response questions from which to choose; you only have to do one! Topics include carbon (macromolecules), water, and enzymes.

After the exam we will start our second unit on Cell Biology (Have Chapter 7 read for Tuesday P6!)

Good luck!

Emergent Properites of Water Presentation Rubric

Here are the criteria that I will be using to mark Tuesday's Presentations:

Organization

  • Audience cannot understand presentation because there is no sequence of information.
  • Audience has difficulty following presentation because student jumps around.
  • Students present information in a logical sequence which the audience can follow.
  • Students present information in a logical, interesting sequence which audience can follow with ease.

Content Knowledge

  • Students do not have a grasp of the information; students cannot answer questions about topic.
  • Students are uncomfortable with information and is able to answer only rudimentary questions.
  • Students are at ease with content, but fail to elaborate.
  • Students demonstrate full knowledge (more than required)with explanations and elaboration.

Use of Props/ Visuals

  • Students used no props/ visuals.
  • Students, themselves, used props/ visuals to explain content; no class involvement.
  • Students encouraged participation from classmates, but minimal involvement
  • Students thoroughly involved classmates through the use of props/ visuals; presentation was hands-on and fun!

Creativity

  • Presentation lacks creativity.
  • Presentation has minimal creativity.
  • Presentation shows some creativity.
  • Presentation is very creative.

Delivery

  • Students mumble, incorrectly pronounce terms, and speak too quietly for all students in class to hear. Presentation is way too short or way too long.
  • Students incorrectly pronounce terms. Audience members have difficulty hearing presentation. Presentation is too short or too long.
  • Students voices are clear. Students pronounce most words correctly. Presentation length is appropriate.
  • Students used a clear voice and correct, precise pronunciation of terms. Presentation length is appropriate.

AP Biology

This weekend's homework:

  • Read Chapter 1: Introduction: Ten Themes in the Study of Life in Campbell & Reece's Biology textbook
  • Complete Chapter 1 handout consisting of 50 multiple choice questions
  • Read Chapter 2: The Chemistry of Life for Tuesday September 2nd!

IMPORTANT: On Tuesday September 2nd we will meet for AP Biology during period 5, but rather than studying, we will attend the Magazine Assembly. Be sure that the above work is done for Period 6!

Enjoy the weekend!
